9th-11th century AD. A bronze penannular bracelet comprising a flat-section tapering band with rounded ends, complex pattern of punched roundels, triangles and other symbols. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, pl.109. 25 grams, 60mm (2 1/2"). Property of an Essex collector; acquired on the UK art market in the late 1990s. Very fine condition.
