A gilt-bronze button brooch of Class Bi with gilding to the upper surface, central motif a chip-carved helmetted face within a circular frame, brow-band and cheek-plates clearly modelled; iron corrosion to the reverse. Cf. Avent, R. & Evison, V.I. Anglo-Saxon Button Brooches in Archaeologia, vol. CVII, 1982, item 12.1. 3.72 grams, 15.5mm (3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. Fine condition.
