A bronze book clasp with hinge bar and square panel, central hole for attachment, low-relief octofoil rosette, canine head to the edge with mouth pierced to accept a ring or hook. See Zarnecki, G., Holt, J. & Holland, T. English Romanesque Art 1066-1200, London, 1984, p.251 for similar beast-head mounts. 25 grams, 48mm (2"). Found near Louth, Lincolnshire, UK. Fine condition.
