The Commentaries of Julius Caesar have long been an important text in military training and this work is one of the earliest English translations to have been prepared; Clement Edmond(e)s was a government official, widely respected for his knowledge of military theory, he was Member of Parliament for Oxford University in 1621 and then appointed Secretary of State; this is the second, expanded edition published after his death. Good condition; some browning and minor paper faults, a few contemporary ink notes, one engraved plate present. Scarce early translation.
