玛哈嘎拉”是梵语，意思是“大黑”，即“怙主”之意。此件大黑天不同于常见的现忿怒相，而是一位和善的长者。玛哈嘎拉呈游戏坐姿，左手于胸前持骷髅碗；眉眼慈祥，身披袈裟，袈裟描金绘花朵装饰，笔触自然。玛哈嘎拉少有如此造型，且品相完好，包浆厚重，为紫檀佛像之精品。
