此为一块袍料。古代官制有太师、少师。太师位列三公，少师则位列三孤，均为指导、辅弼天子执政的显宦。大狮子小狮子，“大”与“太”通，“小”与“少”通，“狮”则与“师”谐音，大狮、小狮即太师、少师，寓为高官厚禄。清代正装为袍褂相配，女性亦然，女性穿朝服时，外罩穿朝褂，穿吉服时罩吉服褂。后妃吉服袍有三式，前两式为所谓“有水吉服”，外罩有水吉服褂，另一式为所谓“无水吉服”，穿着时外面相应罩的是无水吉服褂。所谓的“水”指的是褂子下幅和袖端上的八宝立水。
