此器配盒外书“御制日晷带定南针”隶书字样。此器三角端下承可旋转调节高度的螺丝足，是为地平，三足顶面镶嵌蓝宝石为饰；晷盘为圆弧形，以白色珐琅装饰于盘上，并绘有“卯正、辰初、辰正、巳初、巳正、午初、午正、未初、未正、申初、申正、酉初、酉正”等字样。来自马太福音第二十章，对应着由早晨六点至晚间六点的时刻，圆弧中间放置水准管；晷盘一端为指南针，在晷盘一端和直立铜架之间本应连有一斜线，是为晷针，已失。调准日晷方向和水平线后，斜线在指时盘上的投影即为当时时刻。此件作品造型规整，带有浓厚的西洋仪器特色。
