此对宫灯以铜鎏金雕琢框架成双鱼型，整器采用鎏金、掐丝等诸工艺，掐丝细密，镀金浑厚，呈现出皇家气派的金壁碧辉煌。灯形如双鱼连体，鱼身肥硕，鱼头为口，鱼鳞和鳍饰以红丝，构思新颖，寓意吉祥。宫灯始于东汉，盛于隋唐，具有浓厚的地方特色。在清代，宫灯成为皇帝奖赏王公大臣的赐物。
