LARGE Chinese Ming Dynasty Xuande Emperor Reign period, Blue and white dragon bowl. Deep curvature flaring upward to form the rim, with a slightly raised footing. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine design color. The Exterior decorated with snarling archaic imperial dragon careening through cumulus clouds among thrashing wavy Lishui water in a cobalt blue color dragon squama rounded the bowl. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The glaze appearance on the blue painting resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a d chicken skin.
