An older & higher quality Japanese officer's sword with matching polished brass and diapered red decorative scabbard wrap, scabbard collar, hilt collar, and windowed pommel guard which accentuate the brushed polished brass of the blade collar (when partially drawn). The visible area of the hilt ornaments (menuki) display flowers, the hand guard with an uncommonly open design. L: 37" (94cm) [tip of pommel to tip of blade] Condition: Corrosion to the blade, missing scabbard end cap and hanging attachment, flaking of the lacquer at the top of the scabbard with a thin crack visible. Missing mekugi (bamboo hilt peg). The hilt has evidently been wrapped with a shoelace. - Tenmoku Auctions is, unfortunately, not equipped to unseat the blade from the hilt & wrappings.
