Northern Wei Dynasty, 386-534 AD. A finely modelled terracotta figurine of a standing horse in an elaborate harness, the muscular neck with bells and pendants, rope with tassels around the upper neck, tall plumed headdress; long saddle-cloth with stirrups, saddle blanket painted in red; standing on a rectangular base, hollow to the underside. 3.2 kg, 40cm (15 3/4"). From a private UK collection, acquired on the London art market 1970-2000; accompanied by an original thermoluminescence test certificate issued by Laboratory Kotalla of Germany, report number 16CM160919.
