Han Dynasty, 206 BC-220 AD. A terracotta group comprising a standing horse and separate rider; the horse standing with head erect, hole to the rump to accept a separate tail; the rider in riding coat, hair gathered at the rear of the head, hands in clenched pose; traces of painted bridle and harness, flesh tones to the face and hands. 3 kg, 40cm (15 3/4"). From the property of a London gentleman; formerly in a UK collection, acquired in the 1990s.
