Description
Translation provided by Youdao
5th-4th millennium BC. A fragment of a marble idol of Kilia type, the head sub-conical with rounded edges; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Getz-Preziosi, P. Early Cycladic Sculpture, Malibu, 1994, figs. 83-84. 300 grams, 14cm including stand (5 1/2"). Property of a central London gallery; formerly with Bonhams, Knightsbridge, 21 October 1999, lot 247; accompanied by copies of the relevant Bonhams catalogue pages. Kilia-type figures are named for the Turkish (Anatolian) site where they were first discovered. The heads of these figures usually have a raised ridge for the nose, which is absent on this example.
