An engraving of a George Washington (1732 - 1799) letter from Mount Vernon to Francis Hopkinson (1737 - 1791), dated 1785. Along the left side of the letter appears the line, "Engraved for the Port Folio - H. Hall." Harrison Hall was an engraver in Philadelphia, active primarily during the 1820s. It begins "In for a penny, in for a pound, is an old adage. I am so hackneyed to the touches of the Painters pencil, that I am now altogether at their back, and sit like patience on a monument whilst they are delineating the lines of my face." From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
