Printed and written on vellum, these original documents follow the career of Jonathan Williams Condy (1770 - 1828) - (depicted here as the Clerk in Philadelphia - https://libwww.freelibrary.org/digital/item/39711 ) as he rises through the ranks of an early American Legal career. From 1795, the first document (signed by Charles Biddle 1745 -1821) indicates that Condy has been admitted as an attorney of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County. The second document, signed in 1800 by D. Caldwell states that "at the Circuit Court of the United States in and for the Pennsylvania District of the Middle Circuit...Jonathan Williams Condy was duly admitted to practice as an Attorney of said Court." Although the signature reads "D. Caldwell", it is likely that it was Elias B. Caldwell because, in 1800, he was appointed clerk of the Supreme Court at Washington and held this post until his death in 1825 From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
