Signed by Dr. John Pennington Hopkinson (1801 - 1836) the son of Joseph Hopkinson (1770 - 1842) and dated 1822, this original art has a title written as "Hi ho! for Sally Keley". On the bottom left of the image there is written "1822 Painted by a Maniac Confined in the Cells of the Alms House J.P.H. The Design his own" and on the reverse the same is written. Dr. Hopkinson was a physician and demonstrator in anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania, and his personal letters are included together in lot 70. The scene shows Native Americans smoking, petting a dog and using a bow outside of two log structures surrounded by felled trees and stumps. From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
