Joseph Bonaparte (1768 -1844) snuff box, Found with the hair of Washington and Bonaparte, this snuff box comes with a Limoges trinket box featuring the "N" design. This small snuff box includes a hand written note, stating the following: "Made at Naples for Charles III (1716-1788) taken by him to Madrid, afterwards used by Charles IV (1748 - 1819) and Joseph Napoleon, Kings of Spain." (His full name being Joseph-Napoleon Bonaparte) Bonaparte was in fact the King of Naples and then also the King of Spain before coming to America and setting up residence in Bordentown, New Jersey at Point Breeze. The reverse of the card reads "snuff box made of elephants tooth" with each word being crossed out. According to the provenance, this box was made in the early 18th century, and would have been brought to America by Joseph Bonaparte at some point during his time here but no later than 1832 when he returned to Europe.
