1848 French Constitution, pres by Lucien Murat to Hopkinson, "Constitution de la Republique Francaise precedee des Rapports et Decrets Qui Y Sont Relatifs" (Imprimerie Nationale, Paris 1848); the cover reads "Murat (Lucien) Representant Du Peuple (Lot)". There is a letter attached to the first page on Republique Francaise letterhead, Department de la Seine. The letter from Lucien Murat (1803 - 1878) (his maternal uncle being Joseph Bonaparte, 1768 1844) reads as follows "On the adoption of the French Constitution, a copy of it was (?) by the Chamber to each of those who had assisted at its formation. Permit me, Madam, to offer mine to you, who are so closely connected with the memory of one of the most distinguished Patriots, who signed the Declaration of American Independence. Lucien Murat, Colonel 3rd Legion." Below, is added "For Mrs. Emily Hopkinson Philadelphia Penn. United States of America." Emily (formerly Emily Mifflin 1774 - 1850) was the wife of Joseph Hopkinson (1770 - 1842), and therefore daughter-in-law of Francis Hopkinson (1737 - 1791). From the Francis Hopkinson Family Archives
