A Rare Chinese Yuan Dynasty Underglazed “Blue & White” Bottle.This rare jar, or bottle, with underglaze cobalt blue decoration was made at one of the kilns at Yuxi county in Yunnan province, one of the first places in the world where blue & white ware was produced. It is quite "heavily-potted". The underglaze cobalt blue design comprises simple geometric patterns and has fired more black than blue. The mouth is uneven and it appears that it was mis-formed prior to the application of glaze (see close-up images - what at first glance appear to be large chips are not actually "damage" as the surface is coated in original glaze). Height 14.75 cm. No repair or restoration. Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 – 1368).
