A striking, late Byzantine gold medallion, 13th century The impressive gold medallion with relief decoration on both sides. The front with a half-length portrait of Christ on the cross. The fully sculptured, inclined head, resting on his shoulder, captures the viewer's eye due to its fineness and felicitous creative design. The abbreviations IC for Jesus and XC for Christ above the head. On the back the Virgin Mary, her hands raised in a gesture of prayer. Here, too, the exquisitely modelled head is impressively highlighted by the height of the relief. With an inscription referring to the Mother of God. The raised edge surrounding the medallion with a slight knock in one place due to age. Small eyelets around the edge for lost pearl ropes, a double eyelet at the top for attachment to a necklace. Das plastisch deutlich hervortretende, geneigte und auf der Schulter ruhende Haupt ergreift aufgrund seiner Feinheit und trefflichen Gestaltungskraft. Über dem Haupt die Marken IC für Jesus und XC für Christus. Auf der Rückseite die Muttergottes mit erhobenen Händen im Betgestus. Auch hier ist das vorzüglich modellierte Haupt durch die Höhe des Reliefs eindrucksvoll hervorgehoben. Mit Beischrift, die auf die erhörende Mutter Gottes verweist. Der erhabene, das Medaillon einfassende Rand altersbedingt an einer Stelle leicht bestoßen. Umlaufend kleine Ösen für verlorene Perlschnüre, oben eine Doppelöse zur Befestigung an einer Halskette.
