1100-1300 AD. Byzantine. Gold Greek cross with flaring cylindrical arms; the cross is ornamented with raised filigree decoration running along the arms and is suspended by a ribbed loop. The Cross is the principal symbol of Christianity, recalling the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the redeeming benefits of his Passion and death. The Cross is thus a sign both of Christ himself and of the faith of Christians. Excellent condition.
