A Chinese carved stone statue of a seated figure on a base dating from the Northern Qi dynasty. There are incised inscriptions on three sides of the base. Dimensions are: 11 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide, 29.2 cm X 12.7 cm. All measurements are approximate. High resolution images can be found here Condition: The figure is missing their head and right hand. There is significant wear, including significant areas of loss to the base. Provenance: From the collection of Osborne and Victor Hauge and their wives, Gratia and Takako. Victor and Takako published "Folk Traditions in Japanese Art” in connection with their 1978 traveling exhibition, which featured at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Japan House Gallery in Los Angeles, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, and galleries in New York City. Additionally, thousands of items from the Hauges are now housed in the collections of the Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C.
