It was not possible to examine the reverse of the painting as the frame has a solid backboard which is well attached and covered with black painted fabric. The surface texture of the painting would suggest that it has not been lined. The paint layer is in a good condition overall. Under ultraviolet light the sky has a mottled appearance but this seems likely to be reworking by the artist rather than later overpaint. A hazy bloom is starting to form in the darker paint passages, especially at the left hand side. The painting is glazed and the glass is dirty both inside and out.
