In the lower left quadrant is a tear which has been secured from the reverse with tape. The canvas tension is slightly slack and stretcher bar marks are forming where the canvas rests against the wooden stretcher behind. Along the lower edge are undulations with areas of loss caused by debris trapped between the lower stretcher bar and the canvas. The paint layer has a network of age cracks across the surface. There are numerous impact cracks, for example the circular rings in the upper left side. There are also horizontal lines of cracks across the surface. In the lower left corner the raised paint has led to loss and abrasion. There are localised losses around the edges of the canvas. Areas of retouching are mainly located in the sky and have darkened over time. There is a thin varnish layer present.
