Artist Biography: Dean Richardson (b. 1931) was a prolific American painter of the post-war period. His subject matter focused particularly on icons "that have shaped American culture," including Native American heroes such as the one portrayed in his Warrior Series. His painting is characterized by impressionistic forms and thick brush strokes, which emphasize the introspective intent of his works. In the words of his official biography, "Richardson's paintings force us to examine our past no matter how painful or triumphant it may have been, and look to the future with better understanding and tolerance towards man and nature." Condition: There are 2 small areas of chipping. Not examined out of frame. Provenance: Consigned by the artist's niece. Gallery label on verso from Virginia Lynch Gallery, Inc. in Rhode Island. Another painting by Dean Richardson titled "Crown Dancer" sold at Baridoff Galleries on August 4, 2017, as Lot 217 for $4,600 USD.
