A Chinese Zitan wood scholar's box dating from the 18th century. The box has brass corner fittings, a bat-form lock mechanism, and 2 handles. Dimensions: 6 1/2 inches tall X 14 1/2 inches wide X 8 inches deep; 16.5 cm tall X 36.8 cm wide X 20.3 cm deep. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There is some cracking due to humidity and scratching. Provenance: From a private collection in the Washington, D.C. area.
