A Japanese lacquer tray with silver trim dating from the Taisho period. The exterior of the black, rectangular tray and its handle feature bands of gold geometric designs with pinecones. The interior of the tray depicts three gold birds on a black ground, one of which has mother of pearl inset in its tail feathers. Dimensions: 8 5/8 inches tall X 13 1/2 inches wide, 21.9 cm X 34.3 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are a few small dents. There is cracking to the handle where it connects to the tray and on its underside where it bends. Provenance: From a Connecticut gentleman's collection.
