BRITISH CANVAS WORK PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK PANEL, silk on linen, completed in various stitching, depicting a man and woman in fine clothing surrounded by motifs including flowers, a parrot perched on tree branch, a caterpillar, a snail, a butterfly, a leopard, and a stag. Housed under glass in a paint-decorated frame. 18th century. 9 1/8" x 6 3/8" sight, 13" x 10 1/4" OA. Good to very good visual condition with toning, some stains, several tears and holes along edges of linen with one hole to the right of the butterfly, some fading and fugitive color to thread and some losses mostly in ground stitching, frame with minor wear.
