Oil on paper, subsequently mounted on cardboard. A detailed study of a Grisaille painting. In a partially gilt wooden frame of later date. An old label ("Esquisse de la mort de Cesar...") and inventory sticker on the back. Includes an expert report prepared by Dr. Federica Spadotto. Diziani studied under Sebastiano Ricci in Venice and other places and is today regarded as his most important successor. As a travelling artist he also spent several, formative years in Germany, where he was appointed to the court of Augustus III. He designed stage sets and created several paintings for the Schlosskirche in Dresden. Later on, he designed four supraportals for Munich's Residence. Works by Diziani can be found in the most prestigious museums in the world, from the Louvre in Paris, the Albertina in Vienna all the way to the Eremitage in St. Petersburg.
