A two-hand flamberge, probably Stantler workshop, Munich, circa 1580 Finely undulating, double-edged blade (occasional notches in the anterior third), double fullers with incised ornamental décor on both sides of the upper third. The sturdy ricasso with two lateral guards. A cross mark struck on both sides, presumably that of the Stantler family, swordsmiths of Munich. Blackened, ridged quillons, the arms angled slightly toward the blade, terminating in three decorative spirals. The large guard rings entwined around fleur-de-lys motifs on both sides. Stepped grip with black leather cover, this cracked due to age. The double tapered pommel with six grooves, incised ornamentation and a spherical riveted button. Length 181.5 cm. Condition: II +
