A Chinese gilt bronze seated Shakyamuni Buddha dating from the Ming dynasty. Buddha sits in dhyanasana on a double lotus pedestal with his hands in bhumisparsha mudra. He wears a robe with a dotted border over one shoulder. Dimensions are: 5 1/2 inches tall X 4 1/8 inches wide, 14 cm X 10.5 cm. Weight: 500 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The bottom has been replaced. There are holes to the back of the right thigh. Some dents are present on the right hand and knee. Wear to the gilt. Provenance: From the collection of Mr. Williams in Texas. Mr. Williams has more than 50 years of collecting experience in Buddhist sculptures, paintings, and ritual objects from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, and the Central Plains of China.
