A WUCAI ENAMELED PORCELAIN JAR AND COVER, MING DYNASTY China, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The ovoid body rising from a tapered foot to a broad rounded shoulder with a short waisted neck, the domed cover with a lotus finial, decorated in underglaze blue and bright enamels with an immortal holding a ruyi scepter and riding a qilin, surrounded by several young attendants, a band of stiff leaves above the foot and a band of flowers and scrolling leafy vines repeated on the cover. With an associated pierced wood base. Condition: The cover was broken into two pieces with material fillings and touchups visible, several chips with fills and touchups to the cover as well, the jar with later copper lining, the neck with hairlines, fills, and touchups, some wear to enamels, light scratches, and firing flaws.
