Claude Thomas Stanfield Moore (1853-1901) Shipping in a harbour at dusk signed 'Claude Moore' l.l., oil on canvas 51 x 76cm Provenance: Purchased from The Suffolk Art Galleries, 1972. Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas tension is slightly slack but the picture is in plane. The painting layers are in a good, stable condition. There is extensive overpaint applied across the surface. In the sky this appears to have been applied wholesale, possibly to cover dark cracks in the paint surface rather than wear or damage. The overpaint has discoloured over time becoming pink the sky and purple in the darker paint passages. The varnish is even and slightly yellowed.
