Description
Translation provided by Youdao
1st century BC-1st century AD. A bronze figure of Mercury (Greek Hermes) standing nude with left leg bent, mantle to the left shoulder, right arm extended and hand gripping a trifid bag; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Rolland, H., Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 34, for type. 440 grams total, 16cm including stand (6 1/4"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection formed since 1970. The position and typology of these figures of Hermes-Mercury are influenced by Alexandrine craftsmanship. The movement of the body towards the left and head towards the right resemble a pre-Praxiteles model. [No Reserve] For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price
