34 x 470,5 cm Condition Style of Wei Zheng (580-643), China, ca. 17th ct., Calligraphy in Cursive Script. Handscroll, ink on paper. Signature: "Wei Zheng". One seal: "Seal of Wei Zheng" (Wei Zheng zhi yin). Twelve collectors' seals: "Laohe", "Wen Yu shuhua", "tingfanlou cang", "zhiwan", "Song Xiang zhi yin", "shientang zhencang shuhua siyin", "Feng Ziming yin", "weidao shicong", "Qinggong taibao", "Liang Tongshu yin", "shan(wai)","Beijingtang zhu". Wei Zheng was one of the art connoisseurs of Emperor Taizong of the Tang dynasty (r. 626-649). Together with Yu Shinan (558-638) and Chu Suiliang (598-658) he had to authenticate the works of Wang Xizhi and others in the palace collection. As a child, he was an orphan and raised his position by studying calligraphy, thus becoming a master calligrapher and art expert.-Minor damage and restorations
