153 x 48 cm Condition Anonymous Landscape with Scholar's Studio in the Rain, China, ca. 17th ct. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on silk. Above the painting, a four character inscription gives the title of the picture: "Rain is coming at the Xiaoxiang (Xiangjiang)". A scholar is sitting in his studio and reading when he hears the rain dropping onto the leaves of a banana plant in front of the study. A servant opens the door and sees the rain falling. Mist is enveloping the mountain above the study while the blue and green garden rocks are sparkling in fresh colour.-Acquired at Dahmann, Hilden, 11th Oct 1975, no. 152-Minor restorations, minor damage due to age
