34,6 x 305 cm Condition Style of Qian Gu (1508-1578), China, ca. 17th ct., Landscape in the Blue and Green Style, Two Scholars in Dialogue. Handscroll, ink and colours on silk. At the end of the scroll, the title of the painting and a signature: "Two Scholars Talking in the Peach Blossom Garden. Occasionally painted by Qian Gu in the Qingshi shanfang." Two seals: "Qian", "Gu". One collector's seal "taiyuan qishi jiacang". Qian Gu, style name shubao alias qingshi, was a literati landscape painter from Suzhou. He was a student of Wen Zhengming (1470-1559) and painted fine literati landscapes in which he often used blue and green colours. This handscroll is of a later date but executed quite skillfully in a heavy blue and green style.-Acquired at Hauswedell, Hamburg, 17th Jan 1974, auction 195, no. 573-Minor folds
