131 x 32 cm Condition Tang Luming (1804-1874), China, dated 1836, Peonies. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on silk. Poetic inscription by the artist, signature: "In the spring of the bingshen year (1836) painted in the Mandala Studio (Mantuoluo shi) by Lemin Tang Luming". Two seals: "Lemin", "Seal of Tang Luming" (Tang Luming yin). Tang Luming, style name Lemin, was from Changzhou in Jiangsu. He was the fourth son of the literati painter Tang Yifen (1778-1853) and a leading figure painter of the first half of the 19th century. He was especially noted for his paintings of beautiful women.
