183 x 102 cm Condition A FINE SCROLL PAINTING TITLED 'TRAVELLING THE AUTUMN MOUNTAINS' BY SHI YUAN, China, possibly dated 1702, China, ca. 16th/17th ct., hanging scroll, 183 x 102 cm, ink and colors on silk. Inscription and signature by the artist: "Travellers in Autumn Mountains. In the mid summer of the renwu year (1702/1762) painted in the Mishan Hall in Shicheng, .. Mumin Shi Yuan". Two seals of the artist: "Shi Yuan", "Mumin"- Shi Yuan, was a landscape painter from Jiangdu (Yangzhou) in Jiangsu Province. He was especially fond of painting donkeys and was therefore called 'Shi Donkey'. In this impressive landscape in the style of the Ming dynasty the travelers on the steep mountain paths are accompanied by altogether five donkeys or mules-Property from an old German private collecection, since 1949 in the family of the present owner-Slight creases, wear due to age
