LOT 860 ATTRIBUTED TO IKENO TAIGA (Japan, 1723-1776), a painting of a plum tree, ink on paper, signed Kyuka Tsutomu and sealed Taiga no do, Shuhei, shotei ko - Ikeno Taiga, was a painter and calligrapher working in Kyoto. First he studied the paintings of the Tosa School, but soon he was inspired by the characteristics of the Nanga School of painting. He studied under Yanagisawa Kien and Sakaki Hyakusen, who taught him the techniques of finger painting as well as under Ekaku Hakuin. In 1750, he studied Chinese painting in Endo, where he was inspired by the painting manual of the mustard seed. Ikeno Taiga painted his most renowned works between 1759 - 1765. (German only)Ikeno Taiga, Maler und Kalligraph aus Kyôto nahm 1742 den Namen Taiga an. Er studierte erst Tosa-Malerei, wurde aber bald von der Nanga-Malerei inspiriert. Zu seinen Lehrern gehörten Yanagisawa Kien und Sakaki Hyakusen, die ihm die Kunst der Fingermalerei näher brachten, sowie Ekaku Hakuin. Im Jahre 1750 begann Taiga sein Studium der chinesischen Malerei in Endo, wo ihn sicherlich der "Senfkorngarten", das Handbuch aller Bunjin-Maler, inspirierte. Ikeno Taigas beste Arbeiten stammen aus den Jahren von 1759 - 1765.
