A Burmese ivory carved figure of a walking Buddha, 18th. century, Burma, Although the figure appears to be standing still (a standing Buddha), when seen from the back we can observe how the back of the right foot is raised slightly from the ground, as if to start walking. H 18 cm, Illustrated in 'Ivoren uit Birma', by Stefan Nies, the catalogue accompanying an exhibition on Birmese ivories (where this figure was exhibited) in Galerie de Ruimte (Eersel, Netherlands) in 1996. Two fingers broken off and missing.
