木材色泽红艳，纹理交错明显，木材本身有光泽。镜架荷塘鸳鸯纹状。镜框厚重坚实，镂雕工艺又使之增加了灵动和活泼。镜面为水银镜。中国传统镜为铜质，打磨光洁即可监人。明末清初，西方传教士带来水银镜，遂流行于中国上层社会。此件红木帽镜当为仿紫檀做工，保存至今殊为难得。
