A RETICULATED JIAOZHI CERAMIC PEDESTAL, QING DYNASTY
China, 1644 -1912. Of hexagonal form with a round top, the sides reticulated, overall covered in a rich turquoise glaze, the foot left unglazed to reveal the buff ware.
Provenance: From an Austrian private collection.
Condition: Excellent condition, with some manufacturing irregularities, small nicks at the bottom rim and remnants of red marks on the underside.

Jiaozhi ceramic, also known as cochin ware or Koji pottery, describes ceramic ware that originates from the Guangdong province in Southern China. It consists mainly of decorations for walls and roof ridges of temples, which are glazed in bright, glossy colors. Nowadays, only a handful of craftspeople still possess the traditional Cochin skills.
