A Large Chinese Henan-Type Conical BowlJin DynastyThe conical bowl rises from a slightly splayed foot with rounded sides that have three molded circles below the finger-grooved rim, the sides covered with a deep tan brown glaze that lets the russet glaze beneath it just show through. It then gives way with the russet covering both the bottom lip of the finger-groove and the upper lip which forms the mouth rim of the bowl, the inside of the finger-groove covered in a deep black glaze with its hints of blue that still lets the russet below peak out, a quality that makes Henan wares so desirable. The finger-groove also has a russet splash that pours over from one of three such russet splashes on the inside of the bowl tapering from the rim to the center and over the black glaze with its blue tones that cover all of it. On the exterior, the brownish glaze falls irregularly towards the foot, exposing the buff ware on the lower body and foot.. Diameter 7 1/2 inches. Provenance:Jade Dragon; Ann Arbor, Michigan. Note:For an almost identical bowl of the same size and with three russet splashes but without some of the other details of this bowl see Christies, New York 24 June 2020, lot 57 (Realized price$9,375). For another similar bowl of the same size with five russet splashes on the interior but without the finger-grooved rim from the Robert H. Ellsworth sale see Christies, New York 19 March 2015, lot 843 (Realized price $25,000).C Property from the Collection of Steven J. Harvis
