William Henry Barribal, British 1874-1952- Portrait of an elegant lady in a blue coat and hat, carrying a dog; watercolour and bodycolour on paper, signed (centre left), further indistinctly signed (lower centre), 48.5 x 30.5 cm. ARR. Note: By the turn of the century Barribal was established as an aplished and extremely activemercial artist and designer. In the 1920s and 1930s he created a range of posters for Schweppes and for the London and North Eastern Railway. He also worked for many magazines including Vogue, Illustrated London News, The Strand and The Graphic. He lived and worked from one of St Paul’s studios on the Cromwell Road in London, and his wife Gertrude Louise Fannie Pitt was his principal model. He exhibited at London's Royal Academy and elsewhere. His images of exquisite and fashionable Edwardian women have be classics and the work of many modern fashion artists shows traces of the unmistakable 'Barribal style'.Please refer to department for condition report
