此件为白玉质，质地洁白莹润。以圆雕、透雕、线刻的艺术手法作螳螂捕蝉造型，螳螂和蝉立于树叶上，螳螂目视前方，双翼敛收，前肢捕捉蝉，生动形象。上有穿孔，可供穿系佩挂。汉·刘向《说苑·正谏》：“园中有树，其上有蝉，蝉高居悲鸣饮露，不知螳螂在其后也；螳螂委身曲附欲取蝉，而不知黄雀在其傍也。”玉雕螳螂最早出现于商周时期，受砣玉工艺限制，彼时螳螂多由线刻、浅浮雕装饰手法凿就。及至清代玉器技艺进步，包含多种装饰手法的圆雕玉器层出不穷，且题材更加丰富。
