A SUIT OF ARMOR WITH KOBOSHI KABUTO AND KUWAGATA MAEDATEJapan, Edo period (1615-1868)The matching components of dark-brown or black-lacquered iron and laced in blue with orange, white, green, and brown, comprising a koboshi kabuto with elaborate six-tiered chrysanthemum-form tehen kanamono, further with a four-lame shikoro, the mabizashi mounted with a gold and black-lacquered kuwagata maedate; a hanbo with a four-lame yodare-kake; a yokohagi okegawa do, fitted with seven sections of five-lame kusazuri; and sangu (kote, suneate, and haidate) with floral-decorated silk brocade over blue fabric.HEIGHT approx. 140 cmCondition: Overall good, original condition with wear, the silk brocade with extensive tears, loose threads, and losses, the lacquer with flaking and minor losses, the maedate with more extensive loss to lacquer, some loose threads, tears, and minor losses to lacing and fabric, further minor losses.Provenance: Czech private collection.With a wood storage box.
