A SUIT OF ARMOR WITH EBOSHI KABUTOJapan, Edo period (1615-1868)The matching components covered with leather and laced in blue, comprising an eboshi kabuto mounted with a maedate in the form of two leaves with lacquered veins and further with a four-lame shikoro, the fukugaeshi applied with gilt-metal mon crests, the mabizashi lacquered red to the underside; a black and red-lacquered hanbo with a four-lame yodare-kake; a do with two gilt chrysanthemum appliques suspending loose rings, fitted with kusazuri; kote and tekko over green textile with gold-thread decoration and connected by kusari (chainmail); and further with sode (shoulder guards), haidate (thigh guards), and suneate (shin guards).HEIGHT approx. 134 cmCondition: Good, original condition with some wear, minor tears and cracks as well as small losses to the leather, some loose threads and minor losses to lacing, the maedate with extensive loss to lacquer.Provenance: Czech private collection.With a wood storage box.
