Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A cast-bronze head of a lioness that was perhaps used as an attachment for ornate furniture pieces or personal effects. The stylized feline head presents with a gaping mouth beneath a stout snout, a rounded head flanked with a pair of petite eyes, wing-shaped ears, and a slender neck above a cylindrical socketing slot.
