Silk with multi-colored silk threads, segmented, backside lined with silk, fabric hinge on top. China, around 1900

This very large, bright red background silk embroidery shows satin stitch as well as meticulous Peking knot stitch, which is also known as the forbidden stitch. The panel shows floral arrangements, fruits, double gourds and Chinese characters standing for happiness and good fortune.

Shape: Rectangular, horizontal panel
Dimensions: 185 x 300 cm
Condition: Good condition with only minor wear and few open stitches or loose threads. Colors are very fresh. The backside lining is rather worn with small holes and tears.
